Adult Ministries



 
Adult Christian Education participants may choose from a variety of Sunday morning class topics including Bible and Theology, Peacemaking, as well as Prayer and Spirituality.

The Word with Children Minimize
During the service, the children in the sanctuary are invited up to the front to sit for a special short sermon that puts the context of the day's sermon in a format geared just for them.

Sunday Nursery Minimize

9:30am - 10:45am

Immanuel’s nursery is a place where each child receives loving care and attention in age appropriate rooms.  Children of all ages are welcome in worship, but the nursery is available for infants through 1st grade.

11:00am – Noon

Children and youth are provided age appropriate, Biblically based Christian Education and activities.  “Seasons of the Spirit” is the lectionary based curriculum used in classes for children and youth.

Logos Minimize
5:45pm – 8:00pm

LOGOS is a mid-week gathering focused on the nurture of youth and children.  LOGOS ordinarily meets 12 Wednesday evenings in the fall and 12 Wednesday evenings in the Winter.

There are four parts to the program:

  • Bible Study
  • Family Time (a meal)
  • Playtime
  • Worship (includes music)

The mission of LOGOS is to:

  • Build Christian relationships (faith is caught, not taught)
  • Nurture youth and children into a committed faith relationship with Jesus Christ
  • Prepare them for a lifetime of Christian discipleship

Presbyterian Day Camp Minimize

Each summer Immanuel, in partnership with the Presbytery of Sheppards and Lapsley, hosts a week-long day camp for Montgomery Area Presbyterians and friends.  It is staffed by the summer camp counselors and local volunteers.  Children and youth sing, play, have Bible Study, do crafts and mission projects while they build relationships with one another.

Vacation Bible School Minimize

Immanuel offers Vacation Bible School  one week during the summer.  It ordinarily is held Wednesday through Sunday ….Wed. -Fri. evenings, Saturday morning and Sunday morning.  Children, youth and adults enjoy learning about God’s love and care for us, focused on a themed curriculum.

Summer Camps & Retreats Minimize

The children and youth of Immanuel actively participate in the Presbytery of Sheppards and Lapsley’s Summer camping program.  While  the Presbytery is preparing to build a new camp  to accommodate all age groups at the Living River site on the Cahaba River, our camps and retreats are being held at rented camp facilities in the state.  Camps are offered for children and youth from grades 2 through 12 and are staffed by excellent counselors and camp directors.

Weekend Presbytery retreats are held for Elementary Aged Children, Jr. High and High School Youth.  They are are ordinarily held in the fall, winter and spring.

Presbyterian Youth Connection Minimize
5:30pm – 7:00pm

Youth in grades 6-8 and 9-12 meet each Sunday for dinner, programs and activities.  Our PYC strives to:

  • Call young people to be disciples of Jesus Christ
  • Respond to the needs and interests of young people
  • Work together in partnership, young people and adults
  • Be connected to the whole church, community and world
  • Be inclusive of all young people.

Members of our youth group actively participate in presbytery retreats and camps as well as Montreat Youth Conferences.

Meets each Wednesday evening at 6:30 pm.  However, when LOGOS is in session, choir meets at 7:30 pm.

Sacred Harp Singers Minimize
Meets and rehearses for special services and announce opportunities to participate in community singing.

Bookmongers Minimize
Book Study Group, meets monthly, open to the community.

Open Hearts and Minds Minimize

An interfaith book study group which meets bi-monthly on the first and third Thursday evenings from 7-8:30 pm.
